QTVR Format

QuickTime VR is a subset of the QuickTime digital video format developed by Apple Computer. QTVR comes in two flavors, object and panoramic, each of which create a virtual reality experience using real photographic images. Panorama VR creates the illusion of being at the center of a space with the ability to Ôlook outÕ in any direction. This is commonly used to view rooms or outdoor scenes. Object VR creates the illusion of handling an object, turning it over and viewing it from any angle. This technology has been used to create interactive merchandise catalogs and to present artistic and archeological museum specimens. With both object and panorama VR manipulation is accomplished by the user clicking and dragging on the image in the direction of desired movement. VR scenes are collections of panoramas and/or objects linked together via hotspot navigation. We have used objects and panoramas and scene QTVR technology to create virtual anatomical specimens which can be viewed with minimal playback hardware and software.

An excellent detailed description of QTVR objects, panoramas and scenes is available in the overview section of the QTVR Online Tutor.
